Lipo Body Contouring in Houston

What Is Tumescent Liposuction?

Like traditional liposuction, tumescent liposuction involves removing excess pockets of fat from the body using suction and a thin tube called a cannula. The difference is that, with tumescent liposuction, the surgeon injects a solution into the area being treated.

The tumescent solution helps reduce discomfort and minimize bleeding during the procedure. The solution also makes it easier for the liposuction surgeon to remove fat by pumping up the area between the muscle and fatty tissue.

Tumescent liposuction is suitable for patients who have a stable body weight and are within 25 pounds of their ideal body weight. It is not designed for weight loss or for obesity treatment.

Benefits of Tumescent Liposuction

Liposuction can help remove stubborn areas of exercise-resistant fat that may be virtually impossible to eliminate without intervention. By improving your body’s contour and weight distribution, you’ll likely find that clothes fit better and you’ll feel more confident.

Liposuction can also help improve certain LipLimedical conditions, including lipomas (non-cancerous tumors made of fatty tissue), gynecomastia (enlarged breast tissue in men), and lipodystrophy syndrome (abnormal fat distribution).

Liposuction permanently removes fat from the body, but it’s important to follow a healthy lifestyle after surgery to prevent remaining fat cells from growing bigger.

The Tumescent Liposuction Procedure: General Overview of What to Expect

On the day of your procedure, the team will prep you for surgery. The surgeon will mark the areas to be treated on your body while you’re standing up.

To begin the procedure, the surgical team will inject the tumescent solution. The surgeon will then create incisions, insert the cannula, and suction out the severed fat cells. The procedure usually takes about two hours but may take more or less time depending on your specific situation.

Once the procedure is complete, the team will cover the incisions with sterile wound dressings. The incisions will be very small and should not require stitches.

Most patients are able to walk normally after the procedure and can go home the same day but you must have a driver.
